This Kendriya vidyalaya is situated in Adra, which is a small picturesque town situated in the district of Purulia in the south of West Bengal.  Geographically, it is surrounded by the Rajmahal Hills within the Chotanagpur Plateau region.Adra boasts of one of the oldest and important railway divisions under the South Eastern Railway.It is a junction railway station which is easily accessible by train from Howrah via Kharagpur and via Asansol; and also from the steel city of Tatanagar(Jamshedpur) via Purulia, which is the district headquater.The district of Purulia lends its antiquity and tradition to this vibrant town which is replete with a mixed populace, speaking predominantly Bengali,Hindi,Oriya and Telegu. Adra reflects a mixed culture and tradition, mainly due to its amalgamated population so indicative of a town filled with railway establishments.

Kendriya Vidyalaya,Adra was established in the year1981 with the sole purpose of providing quality education to the wards of railway employees posted in and around Adra.It is a bilingual co-educational institution providing education from Pre-Primary to Class-XII and remains the only K.V. in the whole of Purulia district. The vidyalaya gives priority admission to all the wards of Central Government employees, mainly railway employees. Presently, the Senior Secondary section has Science and Humanities streams with a good student strength.

Kendriya Vidyalaya, Adra is among around other 900 K.V.s which runs under the aegis of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan(K.V.S.),18,Institutional Area, Shaheed Jeet Singh Marg,New Delhi-16.K.V.S. is an autonomous organization, well patronized by the Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. Region wise, it is controlled and guided by K.V.S. Kolkata Region with its Regional office at EB-Block, Sector-I, Salt Lake,Kolkata-70064.
As all other K.V.s, this vidyalaya is affiliated with the Central Board Of Secondary Education (C.B.S.E.),New Delhi, and falls under its Allahabad Region.Though affiliated with CBSE, the vidyalaya follows the curriculum devised by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (N.C.E.R.T) along  with that of CBSE.Like other schools under its sister concern Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, which is fully residential, Kendriya Vidyalayas, with no exception to K.V, Adra, endeavours to provide technology aided education so as to produce the ever-vigilant future generation of India.
The vidyalaya has been blessed with a good staff and the faculty members are all highly educated, dedicated and passionate about their noble profession. On the whole, K.V.Adra strives to provide wholesome and enriching education aimed at all round development of the learners through a highly developed teaching-learning process.
